日蓮がたましひ（魂）をすみ（墨）にそめながして（染流して）・かきて候ぞ 信じさせ給へ、仏の御心（みこころ）は法華経なり 日蓮が・たましひは南無妙法蓮華経に・すぎたるは（過ぎたる は）なし（無し）
経王殿御返事（１１２４頁）　文永１０年８月

 通解

 （この御本尊は）日蓮の魂を墨に染め流して書き認めた（したためた）ものである。しっかり信じていきなさい。釈尊の御本意は法華経である。日蓮の魂は南無妙法蓮華経以外にはない。
意訳

日蓮が顕した御本尊は、日蓮の生命を削ってでも、すべての人々を救いたいという思いを込めて書き認めたものである。しっかりと信じ抜き、受持していきなさい。釈尊が説いた真の法門は法華経であるが、諸法が乱立している末法においては、南無妙法蓮華経が真の法門であり、日蓮仏法の南無妙法蓮華経以外にはない。
English Translations

 " Reply to Kyō’ō "

 I, Nichiren, have inscribed my life in sumi ink, so believe in the Gohonzon with your whole heart. The Buddha’s will is the Lotus Sutra, but the soul of Nichiren is nothing other than Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.

 Interpretation (liberal translation)

Gohonzon that Nichiren is expressed is wrote with great feeling that "even instead of the Nichiren of life want to save all of the people". Please firmly believe retained. Buddha is true of the law preached but is the Lotus Sutra, in the latter days that laws have been mushrooming, Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is true of the law, but not other than Nam-myoho-renge-kyo of Nichiren Buddhism.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
