いかなる乞食には・なるとも法華経にきずをつけ給うべからず - However wretched a beggar you might become, never disgrace the Lotus Sutra.

一生（いっしょう）はゆめ（夢）の上・明日（あす）をご（期）せず・いかなる乞食（こつじき）には・なるとも法華経（ほけきょう）にきずをつけ給（たま）うべからず
         
四条金吾殿御返事（１１６３頁）建治３年７月

通解

人間の一生は夢の上の出来事のように、はかないもので、明日の命もわからないものである。たとえ、どんな乞食(こじき）になったとしても、法華経(ほけきょう）に傷(きず）をつけてはならない。

意訳

人の一生は夢のようにはかないものであり、明日の命も分からない。だからこそ、どのような苦難に直面したとしても、「すべてに意味がある」と前向きに捉え、広宣流布に生きよう、自分の理想を実現させようという、「自分の信心」を傷つけることなく、何があっても堂々と胸を張って生きていくことが大切である。


English Translations

" A Warning against Begrudging One’s Fief "

This life is like a dream. One cannot be sure that one will live until tomorrow. However wretched a beggar you might become, never disgrace the Lotus Sutra.

Interpretation (liberal translation)

Life is are those ephemeral like a dream, do not know even tomorrow of life. That's why, Whatever tribulations has occurred, "the events that occur in developing that faith, all meaningful thing" and positively to regarded, to live in order to propagate the Lotus Sutra, and try to realize their ideals that, without having to hurt "own faith" and, what is important is that to survive in majestically proud even.
