法華経は師子吼の第一なり - The Lotus Sutra is the foremost roar of the lion.
本文 師子の筋を琴の絃にかけて・これを弾けば余の一切の獣の筋の絃皆きらざるに・やぶる、 仏の説法をば師子吼と申す乃至法華経は師子吼の第一なり ししのすじを ことの いとに かけて・これを ひけば よ の いっさいの けものの すじの いと みな きらざるに・やぶる、 ほとけの せっぽう をば ししく と もうす ないし ほけきょうは ししくの だいいち なり 四条金吾殿御返事 しじょうきんごどのごへんじ [梵音声御書] ぼんのんじょうごしょ (1122頁) 文永9年9月 (1272年) 通解(意訳) 師子(獅子)の筋を琴の絃にかけて、これを弾けば、他の一切の獣の筋の絃は、皆切らないのに破れてしまう。 釈迦仏の説法を師子吼という。その中で法華経は師子吼の第一である。 英語で御書 Gosho in English They say that if one uses the sinews of a lion to make strings for a koto* and plucks them, then strings made from the sinews of other animals will automatically snap, even though no one cuts them.
