法華経は師子吼の第一なり - The Lotus Sutra is the foremost roar of the lion.

師子の筋を琴の絃にかけて・これを弾けば余の一切の獣の筋の絃皆きらざるに・やぶる、仏の説法をば師子吼と申す乃至法華経は師子吼の第一なり

通解
　
師子（獅子）の筋を琴の絃にかけて、その琴を弾けば、他の一切の獣の筋で作られた琴の絃は、その音で皆切られてしまう。
仏の説法を師子吼という。ないし法華経は師子吼の第一である。

 They say that if one uses the sinews of a lion to make strings for a koto and plucks them, then strings made from the sinews of other animals will automatically snap, even though no one cuts them.
 The Buddha’s preaching of the Law is called the lion’s roar, and the Lotus Sutra is the foremost roar of the lion.

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
