教主釈尊の御すすめか将又過去宿習の御催か - Did Shakyamuni Buddha, the lord of teachings, prompt this visit?

されども凡夫なればかんも忍びがたく・熱をもふせぎがたし、食ともし表◯目が万里の一食・忍びがたく・　思子孔が十旬・九飯堪ゆべきにあらず、読経の音も絶えぬべし・観心の心をろそかなり。しかるに・たまたまの御とぶらいただ事にはあらず、　教主釈尊の御すすめか将又過去宿習の御催か、方方紙上に尽し難し

通解（意訳）
　
広宣流布の第一線を退き、自ら身延の山林に籠もった日蓮であるけれども、私も凡夫であるから、寒さに耐えることも忍び難く、寒気も防ぎ難い。さらに食べ物も乏しい。
表◯目という者は、万里を行くのに一食で過ごしたというが、日蓮は忍びがたい。
思子孔は百日に九回の食事で堪え忍んだというが、それも堪えられるものではない。
飢えと寒さで、法華経を読み、題目を唱える声も絶えようとしていて、観心の心も疎かになりがちである。
ただでさえ今年は深刻な飢饉に見舞われているというのに、身延の山中にまで白米などの食物等を、たまたま来られてご供養頂いた事は、ただごとではなく本当にありがたい事である。
教主釈尊が勧められたのであろうか、はたまた過去の宿習によるものであろうか。
ともかく厚い御志への感謝の気持ちは、筆紙に尽くしがたい。

＊この年は、深刻な不作や飢饉によって、一般の人々でさえ食料事情が困難だったようです。
日蓮大聖人が入山した身延では、なおさら食料に困ったことでしょう。。
さらに、冬の寒さが昨今に比べて厳しいことも、別の御書でも言及されています。
これらを踏まえて考えると、日蓮仏法の檀家の方々は、自分達が食べることも困難な中にあっても、
師匠の恩に報いるため、日蓮に食料や衣類、墨や紙等を送られた。
この弟子たちの心からの供養に対して、
「送っていただいたお米は、お米ではない。あなたの命を頂いた」、
「釈迦がお使いをよこしたのだろうか」など、日蓮は弟子達に対して大きな感謝の気持ちの文書を送られている。
そして、日蓮も皆と同じ「凡夫」であり、我々と同じように悩み苦しみがあったことが伝わってきます。
さらに、師匠はその姿を見せず、また弟子はその事を察するという、師弟の強い絆を感じる事ができるのではないでしょうか。

" In the Continent of Jambudvīpa "
　
 Since they refused to accept the fine feast I offered them, there was nothing more I could do, and so I have retired to this mountain forest.
 But as I am an ordinary mortal, I find it hard to endure the cold or to put up with the heat here. And we are very short of food.
 Piao Ch’ing-mu could travel ten thousand miles on one meal, but I am not up to that.
 Tzu Ssu and Confucius ate only nine meals in the space of a hundred days, but that is beyond me.
 I barely have the voice to recite the sutra, and I have grown remiss in matters of meditation.

 How wonderful it was, then, that your messenger should arrive at such a moment! Did Shakyamuni Buddha, the lord of teachings, prompt this visit? Or did it come about because of some action in a past life?
 I cannot express on paper all that I wish to say.

* This year, food circumstances even seem to have been difficult for general people by serious bad harvest and famine.
More Nichiren would be in trouble about food at Minobu where I entered.
The winter coldness is referring to a severe thing and a different note compared with these days.
When it was based on these, and I thought, it was also difficult that one eats people of a supporter of Nichiren Buddhism, but to return master's kindness, food, clothes, SUMI ink and paper, etc. were sent to Nichiren.
To a memorial service from this pupils' heart,
"This food isn't food. I received your life.".
"Did a Buddha send an envoy?".
Nichiren is sending a document of big gratitude to pupils.

Because it's drawn here, Nichiren is everyone and the same "man" and finds out that there was pain of worries like us, too. And it's possible to feel the bond with the strong teacher and student.
