鳩 化して鷹と為り 雀（すずめ）変じて蛤（はまぐり）と為る、　悦しきかな 汝（なんじ）蘭室（らんしつ）の友に交りて麻畝の性（まほ の しょう）と成る

通解（意訳）
　
古事に「鳩化して鷹となり、雀（福良雀という、雀の形のような貝）が変じて蛤となる」とあるように、人は善き友（善知識）と交わることで、より善い人間になることができる。
悦ばしいことに、あなたは蘭室の友（蘭の香りのように人徳の薫り高い人）に交わって感化されて、蓬（よもぎ）のように曲がりがちな性格が、真っ直ぐに育つ麻畑の中に蓬が交わって正されたように、素直で真っ直ぐな性格になれた。

 The dove has changed into a hawk, the sparrow into a clam. How gratifying! You have associated with a friend in the orchid room and have become as straight as mugwort growing among hemp.

Interpretation (liberal translation)
　
 In an old legend, " Pigeon will change and be a hawk, and a sparrow [ shellfish shaped like a sparrow ] will change and be clam." , it's possible to be the case that a person associates with a good friend and be better man so that person may have that.
 It's a wonderful thing ! You associated with the good friend in the room of an orchid [ the aromatic person who is natural virtue like the fragrance of the orchid ] and were affected, so you were obedient and you could be the straight character as mugwort crossed in the hempen field where you grow up straight, and your character which bent like mugwort was corrected.
