或は火のごとく信ずる人もあり・或は水のごとく信ずる人もあり - The belief of some is like fire while that of others is like water.

今の時・法華経を信ずる人あり・　或は（あるい は）火のごとく信ずる人もあり・或は水のごとく信ずる人もあり、聴聞（ちょうもん）する時は・もへたつ（燃え立つ）ばかり をもへども（思えども）・とをざかり（遠ざかり）ぬれば・すつる（捨る）心あり、水のごとくと申すは・いつも・たいせず（退せず）信ずるなり

通解

末法の今この時に、法華経を信じる人がいる。火が燃えるように信ずる人もいれば、あるいは水の流れるように信ずる人がいる。
法華経の話を聞いたその時には、火が燃え上がるように信心をしようと思っても、その時から遠ざかると、信心を捨てようとする心が起きてしまうものである。水のような信心というものは、水の流れが絶えないのと同じように、常に退転することなく信心に励むことをいうのである。


意訳

様々な思想や宗教が乱立した今の世の中で、日蓮仏法を信仰する人がいる。信心には二種類の
信心がある。「火の信心」と「水の信心」である。
「火の信心」とは、信心の話を聞いたその時には、勢いよく信心に励もうと決意しても、時が経つにつれて炎が消えてしまうような、または魔に負けて消えてしまうような、弱い信心の例えである。
「水の信心」とは、どんな縁や魔が競っても、それに揺るぐことのなく、常に信心を貫き、前進し続ける、強盛な信心の例えである。
また、炎は勢いよく燃えあがるが、いつかは消えてしまう。反対に水は、熱を加えれば沸騰するが、それが過ぎても水に戻る。
この宇宙の法則に従って、自然現象も信心も、同じように例えることができるのである。
これが、南無妙法蓮華経という宇宙のリズムと、自身の生命のリズムが同じであることを顕した、日蓮仏法の真髄であり、熱い信心の情熱を絶え間なくたぎらせるのが「熱湯の信心」なのである。


English Translations

" The Two Kinds of Faith "

Today there are people who have faith in the Lotus Sutra. The belief of some is like fire while that of others is like water. When the former listen to the teachings, their passion flares up like fire, but as time goes on, they tend to discard their faith. To have faith like water means to believe continuously without ever regressing.

Interpretation (liberal translation)

Various thought and religion are the world now where jumbled up, and the person who believes in Nichiren Buddhism is here. Belief has two kinds of faith. "Faith of the fire" and "Faith of water".
Even if one make up my mind in order to apply oneself to belief forcefully when buddhism talk of faith, as time has passed, a flame goes off or "Faith of the fire" is defeated by an addict, and a figure of devil  of the weak faith which goes off.
Whatever kind of edge and addict compete with "Faith of water", it's the figure of speech of the prosperous belief I always keep moving to which through belief by which to sway in that cries.
one kindle forcefully, but a flame goes off sometime. When applying heat to water oppositely,it boil, but even if that passes, it  return to water.
It's possible to compare a natural phenomenon and faith in the same way with this space law.
This is the quintessence of Nichiren Buddhism which publicized that space rhythm as Glory to the Lotus Sutra of the Supreme Law and rhythm of their life are same, and it's "Faith of boiling water" to make passion of hot faith boil hourly.
