我等過去に正法を行じける者に・あだをなして・ありけるが今かへりて信受すれば過去に人を障る罪にて未来に大地獄に堕つべきが、今生に正法を行ずる功徳・強盛なれば未来の大苦をまねぎこして少苦に値うなり

通解（意訳）
　
我らは、過去世で正法（法華経）を修行していた者に対して怨をなしたのであるが、今世では反対に自分が正法を信受することになったので、過去世に法華経の行者の修行を妨げた罪により、本当は未来世に大地獄に堕ちるはずであったが、今世に強盛に正法を行じているため、その功徳も強盛であるから、来世の大きな苦しみを今世に招きよせて、少さな苦しみに値う事で済んでいるのである。

" Letter to the Brothers "
　
We, who now believe in the correct teaching [ The Lotus Sutra ], in the past once committed the offense of persecuting  its practitioners [ of The Lotus Sutra ], and therefore are destined to fall into a terrible hell in the future. The blessings gained by practicing the correct teaching, however, are so great that by meeting minor sufferings in this life we can change the karma that destines us to suffer terribly in the future.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
