其の上は 私に計り申すに及ばず候 叶ひ叶はぬ（叶い叶わぬ）は御信心により候べし 全く日蓮がとが（咎）にあらず、水すめば（澄めば）月うつる （映る） 風ふけば木ゆるぐごとく・みなの（皆 の）御心は 水のごとし 信のよはきは（弱きは） にごる（濁る）がごとし、信心の・いさぎよき（潔き）は すめる（澄める）がごとし 木は道理のごとし・風のゆるがすは経文を よむ（読む） がごとしと・をぼしめせ

通解（意訳）
　
信心の功徳について、これを自分勝手の解釈で御本尊の功徳を推し量ってはならない。
日蓮が、あなたの願いをいくら祈ったところで、願いが叶うか叶わないかは、結局は全てあなたの御信心によるものであり、全く日蓮のせいではない。
例えば、水が澄めば月はきれいに映り、風が吹けば木の枝が揺れるように、人の心は水のようなものであ。
信人が弱いのは、水が濁っているようなものであり、信心が強く潔いのは、水が澄んでいるようなものである。
木は仏法の道理のようなものであり、風がその木を揺り動かすことは、朝夕の勤行・唱題を怠らず、信心を深めていく努力と、現実と向き合って、願いが成就するよう努力をする事である。
「題目をあげていればなんとかなる」と、題目ばかり唱え、御本尊に頼ってばかりで、自分から木を揺るがそうと努力を怠れば、木は揺れることはない。
自分の信心を深め、行学を実践し、仏法の道理である「南無妙法蓮華経」の御本尊を揺り動かすような、実践の信心をして、現実を変える努力をするところに、御本尊の功徳が顕れるのだと、しっかり心得ていきなさい。

" Reply to the Lay Nun Nichigon "
　
 Now there is no need to attempt to surmise yourself how things will go. 
Whether or not your prayer is answered will depend on your faith;[ Even if we assume how much Nichiren wished for your wish, a result depends on your belief.] ;[if it is not] I will in no way be to blame.
 When water is clear, the moon is reflected. When the wind blows, the trees shake. Our minds are like the water. Faith that is weak is like muddy water, while faith that is brave is like clear water. Understand that the trees are like principles, and the wind that shakes them is like the recitation of the sutra.
[ A morning and evening doesn't neglect and practices Gongyo and Daimoku, and it's confronted with the effort which deepens belief and actuality and is the case that the effort which grants a wish is necessary to grant a wish.
　"When wishing for Daimoku, Buddha would settle it somehow." as if, when you don't do the effort which tries to shake a tree even if you chant the Daimoku and depends on Gohonzon, a tree doesn't shake.]
