通解（意訳）
　
かのホトトギスは、春の終わろうとする初夏を待って鳴き、ニワトリは夜明けを待って鳴く。畜生（動物）ですら、このように時を違えないのである。まして仏法を修行しようとする者が、仏法の説く「時」とはどういうものかを探求しないでよいだろうか。
仏法を学ぼうとするなら、必ず先に仏法の説く「時」を正しく習い、修得しなければならないのである。

The cuckoo sings when spring is waning, the cock waits until the break of day to crow. If even these lowly creatures have such an understanding of time, then how can a person who wishes to practice the teachings of Buddhism fail to make certain what time it is?
[ The person who tries to learn Buddhism has to learn what the "time" explained on the Buddhism is certainly first right and understand the truth of "time" right. ]
