人に物をほどこせば 我が身のたすけとなる、譬へば 人のために火をともせば・我が まへあきらかなるがごとし

通解（意訳）
　
人に物を施せば、かえって我が身を助けることに繋がる。例えば、人のために灯をともしてあげれば、自分の前も明るくなるようなものである。
　

  • 菩薩の心の信心

「人のため」（利他のため）だけを言うと、傲慢になる。「人を救ってあげている」偽善になる。自分のためにもなっている事を自覚して、初めて『修行させてもらっている』『学ばせてもらっている』という謙虚さが出る。自他不二です。
人のために尽くしただけ、自分の生命に福運が積まれる。これが『菩薩道』なのです。

Interpretation (liberal translation)
　

  • Faith of The mind of the Bodhisattva.

 " I make it only for a person. " Only by such a way of thinking of the person that become arrogant, and save a person; become hypocritical. " My action is not only helpful for a person. I learn various things, too. " When such a thought was possible, the body gets a modest heart for the first time.Oneself made it for a person, and good fortune is acquired for one's life.This is " The mind of the Bodhisattva ".

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
