法華経を 余人の よみ候は 口ばかり・ことば ばかりは・よめども 心はよまず・心はよめども 身によまず、色心二法共にあそばせたるこそ貴く候へ

通解（意訳）
　
法華経を、他の人が読むのは、書いてある文章をそのまま口や言葉で読んでも、「文章の奥底に込められた意味（文底)を考える」という求道心では読まない。また、文底を心で読んだとしても、その意味を自身の体験に置き換えたり、今の状況に当てはめて読まない。だから、身と心（色心二法）と共に、文底を読まれたことは、尊いことなのである。

Others read the Lotus Sutra with their mouths alone, in word alone, but they do not read it with their hearts. And even if they read it with their hearts, they do not read it with their actions. It is reading the sutra with both one’s body and mind that is truly praiseworthy.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
