是れ偏に日本国の一切衆生の大苦にあはんを兼て知りて歎き候なり、されば心あらん人人は我等が為にと思食すべし、若し恩を知り心有る人人は二当らん杖には一は替わるべき事ぞかし、さこそ無からめ還つて怨をなしなんど・せらるる事は心得ず候

通解（意訳）
　
（国が誤った法を用いているために、日本国が大謗法の厳罰を受けている。これを救おうとして、立正安国論を国に提出し、国政を諌めた。）
これは、ひとえに日本国の全ての人々が大苦にあうことを、兼ねてから知っているので、これを嘆き憐れんでしたことである。それ故、心ある人々は「私達の為を思って大難を受けたのか」と思うべきである。もし恩を感じて、心ある人々であれば、日蓮が２回、杖に打たれたうち、その一つは替わって打たれるべきではないだろうか。そうしたこともなく、かえって日蓮に怨をなして、迫害されることは、理解できないことである。

[ Japan receives the severe punishment which made the law neglected because a country is using a wrong law. Nichiren tried to rescue this, and remonstrated to government. ]
I spoke out solely because I had long known that the people of Japan would meet with great suffering, and I felt pity for them. Thoughtful persons should therefore realize that I have met these trials for their sake. If they were people who understood their obligations or who were capable of reason, then out of two blows that fall on me, they would receive one in my stead. But far from it—rather, they arouse hatred toward me, which is something I cannot understand.
