当に知るべし 三人に日蓮を入れ 四人と為して 法華経の行者 末法に有るか、喜い哉 況滅度後の記文に当れり 悲い哉 国中の諸人 阿鼻獄に入らんこと
　
法華行者逢難事（９６６頁）　文永１１年１月
通解（意訳）
　
まさに知るべきである。教主釈尊・中国の天台大師・日本の伝教大師の三人に、日蓮を加えて四人を法華経の行者として、まさしくこの日蓮が、「末法に出現する法華経の行者」に当てはまるのである。
なんと喜ばしいことであろうか。「（釈尊在世でさえ）猶、怨み嫉む者は多い・況や滅度の後をや（猶多怨嫉・況滅度後）」の経文通りに、日蓮が当てはまっているのである。
なんと悲しいことか、法華経の行者を誹謗するが故に、日本国中の諸人が無間地獄に入るであろうことは。
　
　
English Translations

" The Votary of the Lotus Sutra Will Meet Persecution "
　
 Truly you should know that, adding Nichiren to the other three[: Buddha, T’ien-t’ai and Dengyō.], there is now a fourth votary of the Lotus Sutra who has appeared in the Latter Day of the Law.
 How glad I am to fulfill the words of prophecy from the sutra: “How much more will this be so after his passing?”
 How sad I feel that all the people of this country will fall into the Avīchi hell!

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
