わたうども（和党共） 二陣三陣つづきて 迦葉・阿難（かしょう・あなん）にも勝ぐれ（すぐれ） 天台・伝教（てんだい・でんぎょう）にも こへよかし（超え よかし）、わづか（僅か）の小島の ぬしら が（主等 が） をどさんを（脅さん を）・おぢては 閻魔王（えんまおう）の せめ（責め）をば いかんがすべき、仏の御使と・なのりながら・をくせん（臆せん）は 無下の人人なり（むげ の ひとびと なり）と申しふくめぬ

通解
我が一党の弟子らは、二陣、三陣と続いて妙法蓮華経の大法を弘め、迦葉・阿難にも勝れ、天台や伝教をも超えていきなさい。
わづかな小島である日本の国主らが脅す事を恐れるようでは、退転して地獄に堕ちた時に、閻魔王の責めをどうするというのか。仏の使いであると名乗りながら、難が来るのを臆するのは、下劣の人々である、と弟子檀那に申しふくめたのである。

My disciples, form your ranks and follow me, and surpass even Mahākāshyapa or Ānanda, T’ien-t’ai or Dengyō ! If you quail before the threats of the ruler of this little island country [and abandon your faith], how will you face the even more terrible anger of Yama, the lord of hell? If, while calling yourselves the Buddha’s messengers, you give way to fear, you will be the most despicable of persons!

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
