籠の内にある鳥の鳴く時・空を飛ぶ衆鳥の同時に集まる是を見て籠の内の鳥も出でんとするが如し - when a caged bird sings, the many birds flying in the sky all gather around it at once; seeing this, the bird in the cage strives to get out.-

されば一編此（いっぺんこ）の首題（しゅだい）を唱（とな）え奉（たてまつ）れば一切衆生（いっさいしゅじょう）の仏性（ぶっしょう）が皆（みな）よばれて爰（ここ）に集まる時 我が身の法性（ほっしょう）の法報応（ほっぽうおう）の三身（さんじん）ともに・ひかれて顕（あらわ）れ出ずる 是（これ）を成仏（じょうぶつ）とは申すなり、例（れい）せば籠（かご）の内にある鳥の鳴く時・空を飛ぶ衆鳥（しゅちょう）の同時に集まる是を見て籠の内の鳥も出でんとするが如（ごと）し

通解

一編でもこの妙法蓮華経を唱えるならば、すべての人の仏性が皆呼ばれて、ここに集まる時、自身の仏性の法報応の三身ともに引かれて顕れ出る。これを成仏というのである。たとえば、籠の中にいる鳥が鳴く時、空を飛ぶ多くの鳥が同時に集まる。これを見て、籠の鳥も出ようとするようなものである。


English Translation

"Conversation between a Sage and an Unenlightened Man"

Therefore, if you recite these words of the daimoku once, then the Buddha nature of all living beings will be summoned and gather around you. At that time the three bodies of the Dharma nature within you -- the Dharma body, the reward body, and the manifested body -- will be drawn forth and become manifest. This is called attaining Buddhahood. To illustrate, when a caged bird sings, the many birds flying in the sky all gather around it at once; seeing this, the bird in the cage strives to get out.
