法華経はあいのごとし修行のふかきは・いよいよあをきがごとし - The lotus Sutra is like the indigo, and the strength of one's practice is like the deepening blue.

法華経の法門をきくにつけて・なをなを信心をはげむ（励む）を・まことの（真の）道心者とは申すなり、
天台云く（てんだい いわく）、「従藍而青（じゅうらんにしょう）」云云、此の釈の心（この しゃくの こころ）は あい（藍）は葉のとき（時）よりも・なをそむれば（染むれば）・いよいよあをし（青し）、
法華経はあいのごとし 修行のふかき（深き）は・いよいよあをき（青き）がごとし
上野殿後家尼御返事（１５０５頁）　文永２年

 通解

 法華経の教えを聞くごとにつけて、今よりさらに信心の修行に励むのを、真の信仰者というのである。
天台大師は「藍よりして而も青し（あい よりして しかも あおし）」といわれている。この「従藍而青（じゅうらんにしょう）」意味は、藍は葉の時よりも、繰り返し染めれば染めるほど、いよいよ青さが増していく、という意味である。
法華経は藍のようであり、修行が深いのは、藍が染めるに従って、ますます青くなるようなものである。
英訳

 "Hell Is the Land of Tranquil Light"

 One who, on hearing the teachings of the Lotus Sutra, makes even greater effort in faith is a true seeker of the way.
T'ien-t'ai states,"From the indigo, an even deeper blue." This Passage means that, if one dyes something repeatedly in indigo, it becomes even bluer than the indigo leaves.
The lotus Sutra is like the indigo, and the strength of one's practice is like the deepening blue.
