一念無明の迷信は磨かざる鏡なるべし - A mind now clouded by the illusions of the innate darkness of life is like a tarnished mirror

一念無明の迷信（いちねんむみょう の めいしん）は磨かざる鏡なるべし、是（これ）を磨かかば必ず法性真如（ほっしょうしんにょ）の明鏡と成る（めいきょう と なる）べし、
深く信心を発して（おこして）日夜朝暮（にちやちょうぼ）に又懈らず（また おこたらず）磨くべし 
何様（いかよう）にしてか磨くべき
只（ただ）南無妙法蓮華経と唱へたてまつるを是をみがくとは云う（いう）なり

一生成仏抄（３８４頁）　建長７年

通解

 無明という、悩みや苦しみ等によって迷っている心の状態であり、まだ磨いていない鏡のようなものである。この鏡を磨けば、必ず法性という本来生命に備わっている悟りの生命（仏の生命・仏界）を開き、明るく輝く鏡となるのである。
深く信心を起こして、昼も夜も、朝も夕も、怠らずに磨いていきなさい。
では、どのように磨けばよいのか。
ただ南無妙法蓮華経と唱えること、これが（生命という鏡を）磨くということである。


英訳

"On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime"

A mind now clouded by the illusions of the innate darkness of life is like a tarnished mirror, but when polished, it is sure to become like a clear mirror, reflecting the essential nature of phenomena and the true aspect of reality.
Arouse deep faith, and diligently polish our mirror day and night.
How should you polish it ?
Only by chanting Nam-myoho-rege-kyo.
