各各（おのおの）師子王（ししおう）の心を取り出して・いかに人をどす（おどす）ともをづる（恐る）こと事なかれ、師子王は百獣にをぢず（恐ず）・師子の子・又かくのごとし、彼ら等は野干（やかん）のほうる（吼る）なり 日蓮が一門は師子の吼るなり

聖人御難事（１１９０頁） 弘安２年１０月

通解（意訳）

日蓮と我が弟子ら一門は、一人ひとりが百獣の王ライオン（師子王）の心を取り出して、どのように人に脅されようとも、決して恐れる事があってはならない。ライオン（師子王＝師匠）は、他のどんな動物（百獣）をも恐れない。師子の子（弟子）もまた同じである。彼ら（法華経を非難する人々）は、野犬やキツネらのような畜生が吠えているのと同じである。
日蓮と我が弟子ら一門は、師弟が一体となって吼えているのである。


English Translations

Each of you should summon up the courage of a lion king and never succumb to threats from anyone. The lion king fears no other beast, no do its cubs. 
Slanders are like barking foxes, but Nichiren's followers are like roaring lions.

Interpretation (liberal translation)

Nichiren and my disciples, Each of you should summon up the courage of a lion king and never succumb to threats from anyone. The lion king fears no other beast, no do its cubs.[These meaning is The lion king is Master , and Its cubs is The disciples.]
Slanders are like barking foxes, but Nichiren's followers are like roaring lions.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
