　天台云く「雨の猛きを見て竜の大なるを知り花の盛なるを見て池の深きことを知る」等云云、妙楽云く「智人は起を知り蛇は自ら蛇を識る」等云云、天晴れぬれば地明かなり法華を識る者は世法を得可きか。

通解（意訳）
　
　天台大師は「雨が猛々しく降る現証を見て、雨を降らせる言われている、竜の力の偉大なることを知り、蓮華の花が大きく咲き盛なっている様子を見て、その池の深いことを知る」等と言い、妙楽大師は「智人は将来起こるべきことを知り、蛇は自ら蛇の本質を知っている」等と言っている。天が晴れるならば、大地は明るくなる。太陽の光に従って大地が明るくなるように、法華経を識る者は、今の世間の本質（世法）を明らかに知り得られるであろう。

English Translations

" The Object of Devotion for Observing the Mind Established
in the Fifth Five-Hundred-Year Period after the Thus Come One’s Passing "
　　 
 T’ien-t’ai states, “By observing the fury of the rain, we can tell the greatness of the dragon that caused it, and by observing the flourishing of the lotus flowers, we can tell the depth of the pond they grow in.”
Miao-lo says, “Wise men can perceive the cause of things, as snakes know the way of snakes.”
 When the skies are clear, the ground is illuminated. Similarly, when one knows the Lotus Sutra, one understands the meaning of all worldly affairs.
