師子王は前三後一と申して・ありの子を取らんとするにも又たけきものを取らんとする時も・いきをひを出す事は・ただをなじき事なり、日蓮守護たる処の御本尊を・したため参らせ候事も師子王に・をとるべからず、経に云く「師子奮迅之力」とは是なり

通解（意訳）

 　師子王は前三後一といって、蟻の子を捕ろうとする時にも、また猛々（たけだけ）しいものを捕ろうとする時も、全力の勢いを出すことは全く同じである。
日蓮が、御守り御本尊（という、小さい曼荼羅）を書き認（したた）め差し上げるのも、この師子王の姿に劣るものではない。法華経湧出品第十五にある「師子奮迅の力」とは、このことである。

English Translations

" Reply to Kyō’ō "
　
 The lion king is said to advance three steps, then gather himself to spring, unleashing the same power whether he traps a tiny ant or attacks a fierce animal.
 In inscribing this Gohonzon [ The amulet of Gohonzon; The Small Mandala ] for her protection, Nichiren was like the lion king. This is what the sutra means by “the power [of the Buddhas] that has the lion’s ferocity.”

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
