菩薩悪象等に於ては心に恐怖すること無かれ悪知識に於ては怖畏の心を生ぜよ・悪象の為に殺されては三趣に至らず悪友の為に殺されては必ず三趣に至る

地涌の菩薩たちよ、狂暴な悪象等に対しては心に恐怖心を抱く必要はない。正法を信じていこうとする人の心を迷わす者（悪知識）に対しては、恐れる心を起こす必要がある。
その理由は、悪象に殺されても、地獄・餓鬼・畜生の三悪道（十界論の内、最下位の三界）におちることはないが、悪友に惑わされ、正法を信ずる心を殺されたならば、必ず三悪道におちるからである
　
　
English Translations

" On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land "
　
 Bodhisattvas [ of the Earth ] , have no fear of mad elephants. What you should fear are evil friends [ who puzzles a heart of the person who believes a right law] ! . . .
 Even if you are killed by a mad elephant, you will not fall into the three evil paths [ the Hell, the Hungry and the Beast spirits ]. But if you are killed by an evil friend, you are certain to fall into them.

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
