かかる身となるも 妙法蓮華経の五字七字を弘むる故なり、釈迦仏・多宝仏・未来・日本国の一切衆生のために・とどめをき給ふ処の 妙法蓮華経なりと、かくの如く 我も聞きし故ぞかし、現在の大難を思いつづくるにも なみだ、未来の成仏を思うて喜ぶにも なみだ せきあへず、鳥と虫とは なけども なみだ をちず、日蓮は・なかねども・なみだ ひまなし、此のなみだ 世間の事には非ず 但 偏に法華経の故なり

通解（意訳）
　
佐渡流罪の身となったことも、妙法蓮華経の五字七字を弘めたゆえである。釈迦仏・多宝仏が、未来の日本国の一切衆生のために留め置かれたところの妙法蓮華経であると、このように日蓮は聞いたのである。現在の大難を思い続けるにも、これも法華経の行者の証であると思うと涙があふれ、未来の成仏を喜ぶにつけても涙が止まらないのである。

　鳥と虫とは、泣くといっても涙を落とすことはない。日蓮は泣かないが涙がひまなく止まらないのである。しかしこの涙は世間の事を考えて流す涙ではない。ただ、ひとえに法華経を弘めゆく使命に目覚めたゆえの、歓喜の涙なのである。
　
　
English Translations

" The True Aspect of All Phenomena "
　
 I am now in exile because I spread the five and seven characters of Myoho-renge-kyo. I spread this teaching because “This is what I heard”: Shakyamuni Buddha and Many Treasures Buddha left Myoho-renge-kyo for the future and for all living beings in the country of Japan.
I cannot hold back my tears when I think of the great persecution confronting me now, or when I think of the joy of attaining Buddhahood in the future. Birds and crickets cry, but never shed tears. I, Nichiren, do not cry, but my tears flow ceaselessly. I shed my tears not for worldly affairs but solely for the sake of the Lotus Sutra.
[ These tears are the tear of delight which is the reason awaken in the mission which propagates "Nam-myoho-renge-kyo" entirely. ]

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
