通解（意訳）
食物には三つの徳がある。一には生命を継ぎ、二には色（顔色、肉体的健康）を増し、三には力（生命力、生きようとする心）を添え強くする徳である。
人に物を施せば、かえって我が身を助けることに繋がる。例えば、人のために灯をともしてあげれば、自分の前も明るくなるようなものである。

• 菩薩の心の信心

「人のため」（利他のため）だけを言うと、傲慢になる。「人を救ってあげている」偽善になる。

自分のためにもなっている事を自覚して、初めて『修行させてもらっている』『学ばせてもらっている』という謙虚さが出る。

自他不二です。

人のために尽くしただけ、自分の生命に福運が積まれる。これが『菩薩道』なのです。
