各各・随分に法華経を信ぜられつる・ゆへに過去の重罪を せめいだし給いて候、
たとへば くろがねを よくよく きたへば きずの あらわるる が ごとし、石は やけば はいとなる 金は・やけば真金となる、
此の度こそ・まことの御信用は・あらわれて 法華経の十羅刹も守護せさせ給うべきにて候らめ

通解（意訳）
あなた達はそれぞれに、これまで随分と法華経を信じられてきた。それゆえ、過去世で犯した重罪への重い償いを、軽くして今世に責め出しているのである。
これは、たとえば鉄を鍛錬するためにしっかりと鍛え打てば、内部に隠れていた傷が表面にあらわれて、本物の鋼へと鍛えられるようなものである。また、石は焼けば灰になるが、金は焼いて精錬すれば純金へと変わる。
今回の困難こそ、あなた方の信心が本物かどうかが試される「試練」として現れたのだろう。法華経の十羅刹女（諸天善神）もあなたがたを必ず守護するにちがいない。

English Gosho
Both of you have continued believing in the Lotus Sutra; thus you are now ridding yourselves of your grave offenses from the past.
For example, the flaws in iron come to the surface when it is forged. Put into flames, a rock simply turns to ashes, but gold becomes pure gold.
This trial, more than anything else, will prove your faith genuine, and the ten demon daughters of the Lotus Sutra will surely protect you.
