賢人は 八風と申して 八のかぜに をかされぬ を 賢人と申すなり、利・衰・毀・誉・称・譏・苦・楽なり、
をを心は 利あるに・よろこばず・をとろうるに なげかず等の事なり、此の 八風に をかされぬ人をば 必ず天はまほらせ給うなり

通解（意訳）
賢人とは八風といって、八種の風に犯されないのを賢人というのである。八風とは利（利益を得る）・衰（衰える/損をする）・毀（非難される）・誉（誉められる）・称（讃えられる）・譏（謗られる）・苦（苦しむ）・楽（楽しむ）である。
大まかな意味は、世間的な利益を得たり、楽しい事が起きても喜ばず、逆に損をしたり、苦しい事が起きた事を嘆かない、ということである。この八風に犯されない人を、諸天善神は守られるのである。
多少の事で一喜一憂せず、何があっても動じない事が大切である。

English Gosho
Worthy persons deserve to be called so because they are not carried away by the eight winds: prosperity, decline, disgrace, honor, praise, censure, suffering, and pleasure.
They are neither elated by prosperity nor grieved by decline. The heavenly gods will surely protect one who is unbending before the eight winds.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
