仏滅後 二千二百二十余年 未だ 此の書の心 有らず、国難を顧みず 五五百歳を期して 之を演説す 乞い願くば 一見を歴 来るの輩は 師弟共に 霊山浄土に詣でて 三仏の顔貌を 拝見したてまつらん

　釈尊滅後二千二百二十余年、いまだこの法華経の書物の肝心である、「南無妙法蓮華経」が説かれることはなかった。いま日蓮は王難を受け、佐渡の孤島に流罪されている身であることをも願みず、五五百歳にあたる末法の初めを期して、法華経の肝心、南無妙法蓮華経を演べ説き明かすのである。
　乞い願くは、一見を歴て来るの輩（御書を学び、信行学の実践を経て、強盛な信心を受持し、広宣流布に励む法華経の行者）は、必ず堅く信じ抜いて、師弟ともに霊山浄土に詣でて、釈迦仏・多宝仏・十方の仏の御顔を拝見し奉ろうではないか。

 注：「一見を歴来るの輩」の通解について。
一見を＝初めて見る、初めて読んで。
歴＝へて、発心して信行学を歴て。
来るの輩＝来る者、信心強盛な法華経の行者となった者。
総じて「観心本尊抄を学び、信行学の実践に励み、強信な信心を受持している法華経の行者」。
または、観心本尊抄送状の意味合いを鑑みると、
「これから先の未来、仏法に対する真の理解が進んだ時において、御書を学び、信行学の実践を経て、強盛な信心を受持し、広宣流布に励む法華経の行者」。

" The Object of Devotion for Observing the Mind " - Cover Letter.
　
 In the more than 2,220 years since the Buddha’s passing, the heart of this treatise has never been revealed before. Despite the official persecution facing me, I expound it now in the fifth five-hundred-year period, when the time is ripe for its propagation.
 I hope those who read it will remain firm in their faith so that both teacher and disciples can together reach the pure land of Eagle Peak and behold with reverence the faces of Shakyamuni Buddha, Many Treasures Buddha, and the Buddhas of the ten directions.

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
