ただ心こそ大切なれ、いかに日蓮いのり申すとも不信ならばぬれたる・ほくちに・火をうちかくるが・ごとくなるべし、はげみをなして強盛に信力をいだし給うべし
　
四条金吾殿御返事［法華経兵法事］

通解（意訳）
　
何事においても、根本は心こそ大切なのである。
いかに日蓮が、あなた（四条金吾＝弟子）の事を祈ったとしても、あなた自身が信心に不信を起こしているなら、濡れている火口に火を着けるようなものである。
自身を励まして、強盛に信心を奮い起こしていきなさい。

 It is the heart that is important. No matter how earnestly Nichiren prays for you[;Shijo Kingo/Disciples], if you lack faith, it will be like trying to set fire to wet tinder. Spur yourself to muster the power of faith.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
