師子は値いがたかるべし - It is hard to encounter a master like Nichiren

願くは我が弟子等は師子王の子となりて群狐に笑わるる事なかれ、過去遠遠劫より已来日蓮がごとく身命をすてて強敵の科を顕せ・師子は値いがたかるべし

通解
　
願わくは日蓮の弟子等は、師子王の子となって、群れた狐たちに笑わるることがあってはならない。過去遠遠劫より以来の日蓮のように、身命を捨てて強敵の悪（謗法）を暴き顕していきなさい。師子に値うことは難しいのである。

 意訳
　
師子（獅子王）である日蓮大聖人の弟子であれば、弟子も師子の子となりなさい。
やがて師子となり、師弟共に師子王の心を持って、命を捨てる覚悟で邪悪と戦い、命を捨てる覚悟で民衆救済の広宣流布のために戦いなさい。
師匠は、愛弟子を護る為ならば、あらゆる困難に立ち向かうのである。
弟子は、師子王である師匠の心を我が心として、民衆の為に、師匠を護るために戦うのだ。
本物の獅子に遭うことが難しいように、本物の師匠と弟子とは出会い難いものなのである。

 My wish is that my disciples will be cubs of the lion king, never to be laughed at by the pack of foxes. It is hard to encounter a master like Nichiren, who since distant kalpas in the past down to the present day has never begrudged his body or life in order to expose the faults of his powerful enemies!

Interpretation (liberal translation)
　
 If you're a pupil of Nichiren Daishonin who is Lion King, grow into a child of a lion.
 A master and a pupil don't fear death and fight against the evil by a heart of a Lion King together.
 A master confronts all difficulty on his own to protect a beloved pupil. A pupil fights for KOSEN-RUFU to relieve all people, to protect a master.
 It's difficult to meet a real lion. likewise, It's difficult to meet the master who has a heart of a Lion King.

January 2 is Ikeda Sensei;our Teacher's birthday of 88 years old.
(He raw on January 2, 1928.)
A phrase of this Gosho was written to celebrate a birthday of Ikeda Sensei.

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
