但 偏に思い切るべし、今年の世間を鏡とせよ 若干の人の死ぬるに 今まで生きて有りつるは 此の事に あはん為なりけり、此れこそ 宇治川を渡せし所よ・是こそ 勢多を渡せし所よ・名を揚るか 名をくだすか なり、人身は受け難く法華経は信じ難し とは是なり

通解（意訳）
　
（この度の試練に臨むにあたっては、）ただひとえに思い切りなさい。
　今年の世間の様子を鏡としなさい。多くの人が疫病や餓死、内乱などで死んだのに、あなたが今まで生き永らえてきたのは、この試練に遭う為なのである。あなたがこの法華経によって試練を乗り越えることで、法華経の実証を証明するという使命があるからである。
　これこそ、数々の名将達が勝ち超えた、宇治川を渡すところであり、これこそ瀬田を渡す所である。勝って名を揚げるか名をくだすか、人生を決める大きな境目である。
人間として生まれることは難しく、法華経は信じ難いとはこのことである。

" Reply to Yasaburō "
　
[ About this trial , ] You must simply make up your mind.
 Look at the world this year as a mirror. The reason that you have survived until now when so many have died was so that you would meet with this affair.
 [ Many people died of a pestilence, starvation and a rebellion, but you also live now.
The reason was to meet this trial. Your mission is to get over a trial by religiosity to this Lotus Sutra, and a Lotus Sutra is to prove to be right. ]
 This is where you will cross the Uji River. This is where you will ford the Seta This will determine whether you win honor or disgrace your name.
 [ The big boundary where a life is decided. ]
 This is what is meant when it is said that it is difficult to be born as a human being, and that it is difficult to believe in the Lotus Sutra.

 * Uji River and Seta is the important position necessary to the purpose by which many great commanders win a battle.
