祈りが叶わないのは、法華経という強い弓があっても、それを信じる心という弓のつるが弱く、妙法の利剣という最強の剣があっても、相手に立ち向かおうとせず、臆病であっては意味が無いようなものである。

　このように、信心で勇気と智慧を引き出し、「相手の間違いや自分の弱さを正すために祈る」という姿勢がないからであって、祈りが叶わないのは、決して法華経のせいではないのである。

 The fact that her prayers have gone unanswered is like a strong bow with a weak bowstring, or a fine sword in the hands of a coward. It is in no sense the fault of the Lotus Sutra.

Interpretation (liberal translation)
　
 Even if the reason why prayer does not come true has the strong bow of the Lotus Sutra, this is because the bowstring is weak faith. There is not at all a meaning for the coward that the person who uses the Sword of Myoho which is the strong sword is not going to confront an enemy.
 It is never fault of the Lotus Sutra that person oneself draws courage and wisdom for faith like these examples, and this is because there is not posture "to pray to correct the mistake of the partner and one's weakness", and do not have the prayer of the person realized.
