通解（意訳）
第六天の魔王は、十種の魔の軍勢（「欲望」、「憂い、悲しみ」「飢えや喉の渇き」「疑いの心」など、１０種類の心の迷い）を率いて戦を起こし、法華経の行者を相手に、生死の苦しみの海の中で、同居穢土（どう こ えど、凡夫と聖人が共に住んでいる国土＝現実世界）を、「とられまい」「奪おう」と争っている。
日蓮は、その第六天の魔王と戦う身にあって、大きな戦を起こして、二十数年になる。しかしその間、日蓮は一度も退く心はない。


English Gosho
The devil king of the sixth heaven has roused the ten kinds of troops* and, in the midst of the sea of the sufferings of birth and death, is at war with the votary of the Lotus Sutra to stop him from taking possession of and to wrest away from him this impure land where both ordinary people and sages dwell.
It has been twenty or more years now since I found myself in that situation and began the great battle. Not once have I thought of retreat.
*Ten kinds of troops

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
