通解（意訳）
一切の仏法もまた人によって弘まる。これに寄せて天台大師は「仏（釈尊）の在世でさえ、なお人によって法をあらわす。末代にあっても、どうして法は貴いけれども人は賎しいとはいえようか」と解釈されている。
それゆえ、持たれる法さえ第一ならば、持つ人もまた第一なのである。

English Gosho
All the various teachings of the Buddha are spread by persons.
As T'ien-t'ai said: “Even during the Buddha's lifetime, the Law was revealed by people. How, then, in the latter age, can one say that the Law is worthy of respect, but that the person who upholds it is to be despised?”
Hence, if the Law that one embraces is supreme, then the person who embraces it must accordingly be foremost among all others.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
