正像には西より東に向い末法には東より西に往く- It spread from west to east in the Former and Middle Days of the Law, but will travel from east to west in the Latter Day.

月は西より出でて東を照し 日は東より出でて西を照す

仏法も又 以て是くの如し

正像には 西より東に向い 末法には 東より西に往く

つき は にし より いでて ひがし を てらし ひ は ひがし より いでて にし を てらす

ぶっぽう も また もって かくの ごとし

しょうぞう には にし より ひがし に むかい まっぽう には ひがし より にし に ゆく

通解（意訳）

月は西から出て東を照らし、日は東から出て西を照らす。仏法もまた、この大宇宙の法則の通りである。

正法・像法時代には、仏法は西のインドから、中国、朝鮮、日本へと東へ伝わり、代わりにその国々の仏法は、本質を失って形骸化してしまった。

しかし、釈尊の説いた法華経に予言された通り、末法に入ったなら、東の国・日本で、地涌の菩薩である法華経の行者が出現し、仏法の真髄である『南無妙法蓮華経』の大仏法を説き明かし、東のこの日本から西へと流布し、世界中に広く流布されてゆくのである。

＊これを「仏法西還」といいます

The moon appears in the west and sheds its light eastward, but the sun rises in the east and casts its rays to the west. The same is true of Buddhism. It spread from west to east in the Former and Middle Days of the Law, but will travel from east to west in the Latter Day.

Interpretation (liberal translation) 

"The moon appears in the west and sheds its light eastward..."

The moon appear from the west and go to the east, the sun rising of the east and illuminates the west.

The Lotus Sutra as a Buddhism is also matching to the principle of this universe.

In the Former and Middle Days of the Law, Buddhism was transmitted from India in the West World, to the East worlds of China, Korea and Japan.

And the Buddhism had lost its essence on these countries, and it had became just ceremonial.

However, in the Latter Day of the law, the Lotus Sutra has prophecy by Shakyamuni Buddha.

The Lotus sutra says, the lord of teachings and the many followers of the Lotus Sutra called the Bodhisattva of the earths appear in the east country of Japan.

The wiseman appears who is a leader of the bodhisstva of the Earth at first, and he preach the true essence of the Buddhism.

This preach is "Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo", and the wiseman's name is Nichiren.

and Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo of the Nichiren Buddhism spreaded from Japan, in the East world to the west world, it has spreading for all over the world.
