命をば三千大千世界にても買はぬ物にて候と仏は説かせ給へり、
米は命を継ぐ物なり 譬えば米は油の如く 命は燈の如し、
法華経は燈の如く 行者は油の如し
いのち をば さんぜんだいせんせかい にても かわぬ もの にて そうろう と ほとけ は とかせ たまえり、
こめ は いのち を つぐ もの なり たとえば こめ は あぶら の ごとく いのち は ともしび の ごとし
ほけきょう は ともしび の ごとく ぎょうじゃ は あぶら の ごとし

通解（意訳）
命というものは、全宇宙の財宝をもってしても買うことができないものであると、仏は説かれている。
（ご供養として頂いた）米は、命を継ぐものである。譬えていえば、米は油で、命は燈火のようなものであり、命という燈火が途切れないように、お米という油を足すのである。
これと同じように、法華経は燈火であり、法華経の行者は油のようなものである。法華経の行者という油がなければ、法華経という教えは途絶えてしまうのである。

Rice is what sustains life. It is like the oil that sustains the life of the lamp. The Lotus Sutra is a lamp, and its votary is the oil that sustains it.

Like this, the Lotus Sutra is a lamp flame, and the believer of the Lotus Sutra are like a lamp oil. Without the oil of the Lotus Sutra, the teaching of the Lotus Sutra will cessation.
