正像には西より東に向い末法には東より西に往く - The same is true of Buddhism. It spread from west to east in the Former and Middle Days of the Law, but will travel from east to west in the Latter Day.

通解(意訳)
 月は西から出て東を照らし、日は東から出て西を照らす。仏法もまた、この大宇宙の法則の通りである。
 正法・像法時代には、仏法は西のインドから、中国、朝鮮、日本へと東へ伝わり、代わりにその国々の仏法は、本質を失って形骸化してしまった。

 しかし、釈尊の説いた法華経に予言された通り、末法に入ったなら、東の国、すなわち日本で、地涌の菩薩である法華経の行者が出現し、仏法の真髄である『南無妙法蓮華経』の大仏法を説き明かし、東のこの日本から西へと流布し、世界中に広く流布されてゆくのである。

English Gosho
 The moon appears in the west and sheds its light eastward, but the sun rises in the east and casts its rays to the west. The same is true of Buddhism. It spread from west to east in the Former and Middle Days of the Law, but will travel from east to west in the Latter Day.

Interpretation (liberal translation)
 Buddhism reached the east from west India to China, Korea, Japan in the times in the period of the imitative law from the teachings of Buddha era and Buddhism of the countries lost essence instead and has become a dead letter.
 However, the Buddhist ascetic of the Lotus Sutra that is a Bodhisattva of the earth in east country namely Japan appears in Latter day as it was foretold in the Lotus Sutra that person preached of Buddha when the person entered.

 And the person is continue to preach Nam-myoho-renge-kyo which is the essence of Great Buddhism, and the teachings of Buddha spread from this east Japan to the west and it is wide and is spread in the world.
