極楽百年の修行は穢土の一日の功徳に及ばず、正像二千年の弘通は末法の一時に劣るか、

是れひとへに日蓮が智のかしこきには・あらず時のしからしむる耳

ごくらく ひゃくねん の しゅぎょう は えど の いちにち の くどく に およばず、しょうぞう にせんねん は まっぽう の いちじ に おとるか、

これ ひとえ に にちれん が ち の かしこき には・あらず とき の しからしむる のみ

通解（意訳）

極楽百年の修行は、穢土の一日の功徳に及ばない。正像二千年の弘通は、末法の一時の弘通に劣るのである。

これはひとえに日蓮の智慧がすぐれているからではない。弘めるべき時がきたのみである。

A hundred years of practice in the Land of Perfect Bliss cannot compare to the benefit gained from one day’s practice in the impure world. Two thousand years of propagating Buddhism during the Former and Middle Days of the Law are inferior to an hour of propagation in the Latter Day of the Law.

This is in no way because of Nichiren’s wisdom, but simply because the time makes it so.
