通解（意訳）
（日本のあらゆる衆生は、）今まさに知るべきである。教主釈尊、中国の天台大師、日本の伝教大師の三人の法華経の行者に日蓮を入れて四人として、日蓮こそ末法に出現した法華経の行者であることを。なんと喜ばしいことだろう、「況や滅度の後をや」の経文に我が身が当たっているのである。なんと悲しいことだろう、国中の人々が無間地獄に入るであろうことは。

全ての日蓮門下の人々は、この書をよく見聞きして、日蓮の弟子たる志ざしのある人々は、互いにこの手紙の内容について語りあいなさい。
＊況滅度後：
「悠多怨嫉・況滅度後」の一部。「釈尊が生きている時代であっても、怨み嫉む者が多かった」「釈尊の滅後は言うまでもなく、さらに法華経の行者は怨み、妬まれる」の意。

Truly you should know that, adding Nichiren to the other three, there is now a fourth votary of the Lotus Sutra who has appeared in the Latter Day of the Law. 
How glad I am to fulfill the words of prophecy from the sutra: “How much more will this be so after his passing?” How sad I feel that all the people of this country will fall into the Avīchi hell!
