通解（意訳）
（釈尊が過去世で修行した）不軽菩薩は、あらゆる迫害の中、迫害された慢心の四衆（僧・尼・在家の男女）に対しても、相手に仏性があると礼拝した。その時、慢心の人々の仏性も、不軽菩薩を礼拝したのである。
これは、鏡に向かって礼拝すれば、鏡に映って浮かんでいる自分の姿もまた、自分を礼拝しているようなものである。
