剣なんどは大火に入るれども暫くは とけず 是きたへる故なり、

通解（意訳）
鍛えていない鉄は、燃え盛る火に入れれば、すぐに溶けてしまう。氷を湯の中に入れるようなものである。
剣などは大火に入れても、しばらくは溶けない。これは鍛えられているからである。
あなたに、あえて事前にこのように申すのは、あなたの心を鍛えるためである。

English Gosho
 Untempered iron quickly melts in a blazing fire, like ice put in hot water.
 But a sword, even when exposed to a great fire, withstands the heat for a while, because it has been well forged.
 In admonishing you in this way, I am trying to forge your faith.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
