通解（意訳）
四徳とは、一には父母に孝行であれ、二には仕えている主に忠義であれ、三には友人に会っては礼義正しくあれ、四には自分より弱い者に会ったならば慈悲深くあれ、ということである。
  • 「誠実な人」が「信頼の人」と輝く
　身近な人が大切である。その人を宝のごとく大事にすることである。そして、誰に対しても誠実に、礼節をわきまえて接することである。　誠実ほど強いものはない。（中略）誠実で築いた友情は、壊れない。策でつくった友情は、やがて崩れる。

 The four virtues are (1) filial piety toward one’s father and mother; (2) loyalty to one’s lord; (3) courtesy toward one’s friends; and (4) pity and kindness toward those less fortunate than oneself.

Interpretation (liberal translation)
  • A faithful person is tame with a person of the trust.
 Take good care of an imminent person. Take good care of the partner like treasure.And you behave to anyone faithfully and are to receive it politely. There is not the strong thing as faithfulness. (omission.) The built friendship does not collapse with faithfulness.The friendship got by a stratagem collapses before long.

本文 人に物をほどこせば 我が身のたすけとなる、 譬へば 人のために火をともせば・我が まへあきらかなるがごとし 食物三徳御書 （１５９８頁） 年月不明 通解（意訳） 人に物を施せば、かえって我が身を助けることに繋がる。 例えば、人のために灯をともしてあげれば、自分の前も明るくなるようなものである。 菩薩の心の信心 「人のため」（利他のため）だけを言うと、傲慢になる。「人を救ってあげている」偽善になる。 自分のためにもなっている事を自覚して、初めて『修行させてもらっている』『学ばせてもらっている』という謙虚さが出る。 自他不二です。 人のために尽くしただけ、自分の生命に福運が積まれる。これが『菩薩道』なのです。 - 池田大作 English Gosho  If one gives food to others, one will improve one’s own lot,  just as,  for example, if one lights a fire for others, one will brighten one’s own way. 湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
