このやまひは仏の御はからひか・そのゆへは浄名経・涅槃経には病ある人仏になるべきよしとかれて候、病によりて道心はをこり候なり
妙心尼御前御返事

通解（意訳）
この病は仏の御計らいであろうか。その理由は、浄名経・涅槃経には「病がある人は仏になる」と説かれている。
病気になったことにより、初めて自分の生死について考えることで、求道心が起こるものである。

English Translations
" The Good Medicine for All Ills "
 Could not this illness of your husband's* be the Buddha's design, because the Vimalakīrti and Nirvana sutras both teach that sick people will surely attain Buddhahood?
 Illness gives rise to the resolve to attain the way.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
