妙と申す事は開と云う事なり - The character myō means to open

妙 と申す事は 開と云う事なり 世間に財を積める蔵に 鍵なければ 開く事かたし 開かざれば 蔵の内の財を見ず
みょう と もうす こと は かい と いう こと なり せけん に たから を つめる くら に かぎ なければ ひらく こと かたし ひらかざれば くら の うち の たから を みず
（南無妙法蓮華経の）「妙」とは、本来自身に備わっている仏の境涯を開くということである。世間のたとえで言えば、財宝が詰まった蔵があっても、蔵を開く鍵がなければ開くことができない。蔵が開かなければ、蔵の中の財宝を見ることはできない。
南無妙法蓮華経の妙の文字は、仏の境涯を開く「鍵」なのである。

通解（意訳）（南無妙法蓮華経の）「妙」とは、本来自身に備わっている仏の境涯を開くということである。世間のたとえで言えば、財宝が詰まった蔵があっても、蔵を開く鍵がなければ開くことができない。蔵が開かなければ、蔵の中の財宝を見ることはできない。
南無妙法蓮華経の妙の文字は、仏の境涯を開く「鍵」なのである。

Gosho in English
The Great Teacher Chang-an states, “Myō means to reveal the depths of the secret storehouse.”
The Great Teacher Miao-lo says of this, “To reveal means to open.”
Hence the character myō means to open.
If there is a storehouse full of treasures but no key, then it cannot be opened, and if it cannot be opened, then the treasures inside cannot be seen.
