通解（意訳）
日蓮は、日本国の東国の片田舎の者で、安房の国東条の郷・海辺の旃陀羅（せんだら・漁師）の子であり、名誉も財産も地位もない身である。むなしく朽ちるであろうこの身を法華経のために捨てることができるのは、ちょうど石を金にかえるようなものではないか。

 Nichiren is the son of a chandāla[;fisherman] family who lived near the sea in Tōjōin Awa Province, in the remote countryside of the eastern part of Japan.
 How could giving a body that will decay uselessly for the sake of the Lotus Sutra not be exchanging rocks for gold?

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
