かつへて食をねがひ・渇して水をしたうがごとく・恋いて人を見たきがごとく・病にくすりをたのむがごとく、みめかたちよき人・べに しろいものを つくるがごとく・法華経には信心をいたさせ給へ、さなくしては後悔あるべし

通解（意訳）
 飢えて食べ物を願い、喉が乾いて水を慕うように、恋をしてその人を見たくなるように、病気にかかったら薬に頼るように、見目形よい人が口紅やおしろいをするのと同じように、法華経においては生命が求めるようにただ純粋に、自然に信心に励んでいきなさい。  そうでなく、自分の心に背いて、無理やり信心をしたとしても無意味であり、後悔するであろう。

English Gosho
 As you crave food when hungry, seek water when thirsty, long to see a lover, beg for medicine when ill, or as a beautiful woman desires powder and rouge, so should you put your faith in the Lotus Sutra. If you do not, you will regret it later.
[ In the Lotus Sutra, You work hard at faith so that your life demands it naturally purely.  

Even if you do faith against your heart by force, it is meaningless, and you will regret it later. ]

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
