通解（意訳）
中務三郎左衛門尉（四条金吾）は、主君のためにも、仏法においての心がけも、世間に対する心がけについても、人間として立派な人であった、立派であったと、鎌倉の人々にいわれるようになりなさい。
蔵におさめている財産よりも、健康、技能や才能などの自分の身の財産が優れている。その身の財よりも、誠実な振舞や感謝の念などの、心の財が第一なのである。

English Gosho
Live so that all the people of Kamakura will say in your praise that Nakatsukasa Saburō Saemon-no-jō is diligent in the service of his lord, in the service of Buddhism, and in his concern for other people.
More valuable than treasure in at storehouse are the treasures of the body,and the treasure of the heart are the most valuable of all.

Interpretation (liberal translation)
You should be praised by the people around you that your personality is wonderful.
Their wealth such as health, skill and talent is superior to the assets put in the warehouse.
Your heart's goods, such as sincere behavior and appreciation, are the most important than their physical goods.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
