汝 須く一身の安堵を思わば 先ず四表の静謐（しひょう の せいひつ）を祷らん者か、
就中（なかんずく）人の世に在るや 各（おの）後生を恐る、 是を以て 或は邪教を信じ 或は謗法を貴ぶ
各 是非に迷うことを悪む と雖も（いえども）而も猶（しかも なお）仏法に帰することを哀しむ。
立正安国論

通解（意訳）
 あなたが、自分自身が安遠・平穏である事を願うならば、まず自分の事よりも、自分の周囲を取り囲んでいる人々や地域の静穏・平和を祈るべきである。

 特に、人が現世にいる間は、誰もが死後の来世のことを恐れるものである。
このゆえに、あるいは邪宗教を信じ、あるいは謗法を尊んでいる。
　私（日蓮大聖人）は、それぞれ信仰している法の是非・善悪に迷っていることを憎む。しかしながら、より深く考えれば、彼等もまた、正法を求めて仏法に帰依しているのである。それでいながら、邪法を邪法と知らずに、盲目的にそれを信じている。そのことを哀しむものである。

English Gosho
 If you care anything about your personal security, you should first of all pray for order and tranquillity throughout the four quarters of the land, should you not?
 It seems to me that when people are in this world they all fear what their lot may be in the life to come.
 So it is that they put their faith in distorted doctrines and pay honor to slanderous teachings.
 It distresses me that they should be so confused about right and wrong, and at the same time I feel pity that, having embraced Buddhism, they should have chosen the wrong kind.

湿れる木より火を出し乾ける土より水を儲けんが如く強盛に申すなり - praying as earnestly as though to produce fire from damp wood, or to obtain water from parched ground.

蒼蝿驥尾に附して万里を渡り 碧蘿松頭に懸りて千尋を延ぶ - A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet.
